1.What are the indications, contraindications and complications of the RF ablation for thyroid, breast tumors?

Benign thyroid tumor

1. Indications:

(1) Thyroid aspiration biopsy accord with benign nodules; 
(2) Recurrent lesions after surgery for thyroid cancer;
(3) Recurrent nodules in the residual glands after thyroid surgery; 
(4) Elderly patients;
(5) Progressive increase of the nodule, and the volume increased by more than 50% in a year or the diameter increased by 20% or the diameter on the two radial lines increased by more than 2mm at least;
(6) Appearance of the local compression symptoms associated with the increase of the nodule, such as apparent foreign body sensation, discomfort or pain in the neck;
(7) Evagination of the nodule obviously affect the appearance, and the patient requires for the treatment;
(8) The patient appears heavy ideological concerns due to fear for malignant transformation and refuses to urge the clinical observation, and requires for the treatment strongly;
(9) Patients with hyperthyroidism caused by independent functioning nodules and ineffective medical treatment.

2. The contraindications of the local thermal ablation therapy for thyroid mainly include:
(1) Severe coagulation disorder;
(2) Severe cardiac and cerebral vascular diseases and pulmonary insufficiency;

(3) The function of the contralateral vocal cord of the lesion is not normal;


3. Possible complications
Peripheral tissue injury, if the nodule is near the esophagus and tracheal groove, it may cause recurrent laryngeal nerve injury

Benign breast tumor

1. Indications

(1) Benign breast tumor, such as breast fibroadenoma, breast disease, etc., especially suitable for patients with multiple fibroadenoma;
(2) Patients with benign breast tumor and who is difficulty to undergo Mammotome operation, such as the breast fibroadenoma in the deep of the areolar or close to the skin, etc.;
(3) Elderly and frail patients with breast cancer and severe underlying diseases, and who can not tolerate surgery or chemotherapy, and with clinical needs of the reduction of tumor;
(4) Patients with limited breast cancer with the size of≤2cm;
(5) The patient appears heavy ideological concerns due to fear for malignant transformation and refuses to urge the clinical observation, and requires for the treatment strongly;

(6) Patients with a strong demands for the treatment because of the demand for beauty


2. The contraindications of the local thermal ablation treatment for the breast mainly include:

(1) Severe coagulation disorder

(2) Severe cardiac and cerebral vascular diseases and pulmonary insufficiency


3. Possible complications

Bleeding, infection
